Wikipedia talk:Pages by alphabetical order
I don't think the page is feasible. Do we really want people to put a new entry to this pages? -- Taku 17:59 Mar 4, 2003 (UTC)
It may sometimes be useful and/or interesting, to get a partial alphabetical list.
It surprised me, however, that http://www.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Allpages&limit=1&offset=100000 gives Loa loa filaria for article number 100,001. This would suggest that not all pages are alphabetically numbered. It is rather recent, from Feb 22, 2003, so may be new articles are first put at the end, and later put in alphabetic order.
I also wonder if such requests are time-consuming for the server - Patrick 18:38 Mar 4, 2003 (UTC)
- It does seem to take a while sometimes...Maybe there is a way to keep the pages cached (put the results in a wikipage!)? Again, I wasn't expecting this page to get someone immediately to the page they wish given that the absence of such a feature led me to believe it would have been done already if it could be automatic. As Special:Allpages has an new layout, can I redirect this page there? Docu 00:02 Apr 16, 2003 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me...As an aside...I think the Allpages would benefit from anchors among other pages (imho anchors would be a great addition...if articles get too large, they can simply be broken up; it's too useful to be able to browse through without needing to click and open up a separate view). - Brettz9 06:06 Apr 18, 2003 (UTC)
