cfd
[edit]You can vote here and release your fury. Oh, and btw, my talk page is MY talk page. - Darwinek 12:09, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
- I was just going to gnaw my hand off instead. ¢ NevilleDNZ 13:45, 6 September 2005 (UTC) ¢
Adding "trenches" categories to existing CFD issue was my bad, so I removed them from there.
- Credit where credit is due, you took them out, and called a new CfD. And I voted delete in lieu of gnawing my hand off.
You can fast-delete them, that would be a good compromise. And together we can create article "List of oceanic trenches by depth". Please, don't feel disobliged. - Darwinek 12:34, 6 September 2005 (UTC) .
- I am not against lists as such. But I have now learned that alot of the hard core wikiholics are gratified by typing and manually rederiving/sorting category information. The time would be better spent actually adding content and letting the machine do the sorting and cross referencing. Many wikipedians must feel robbed by the Tabulating Machine Company 1896.
- Besides I am retired.

Enhancement table example and toolbar
[edit]Here is an example of a generated table. it can be generated at the USGS web site, the mountains are sorted by Latitude.
Name↑↓ | LAT↑↓ | LONG↑↓ | DIAM↑↓ | ET↑↓ | AD↑↓ | Origin↑↓ |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Nile Montes | 52.0 | 253.0 | 450.0 | Greek | 1997 | Where Zeus restored Io to her human form. |
Zal Montes | 37.5 | 76.3 | 422.0 | Iran | 2000 | Iranian sun god. |
Euxine Mons | 27.0 | 126.0 | 200.0 | Greek | 1997 | Io passed by here in her wanderings. |
Skythia Mons | 26.0 | 98.0 | 200.0 | Greek | 1997 | Io passed by here in her wanderings. |
Mongibello Mons | 22.3 | 66.6 | 180.0 | Italy | 2000 | Name for Mt. Etna, site of Vulcan's forge in Dante's "The Inferno." Thunderbolts from here killed Capaneus, the great blasphemer. |
Gish Bar Mons | 18.5 | 87.0 | 87.8 | Babylon | 0 | Babylonian sun god. |
etc ... |
Note that the table heading becomes a tool bar that can be clicked on to sort the table anyway the end-user prefers.

Your new name
[edit]Hi - if you're going to change your user name to somewhere in the Shetlands (a bit obsessive, if flattering), I would have thought "The Nev" would have made more sense! Grutness...wha? 11:20, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
It
[edit]it rains; it is cold; so it seems; it is winter;
it is Ash Wednesday; it is Ash Wednesday today;
it is 6 o'clock; it is 6 miles to Oxford;
it says in the bible that all men are liars;
I would go if it were not for the expense; it is absurd talking like that;
it is incredible that He should refuse; it is a dirty business, this meat-canning;
is it difficult to learn Greek? it is seldom that he fails;
it is in vain that you quibble; it is to him that you must apply;
it was a purse that he dropped; it was the Russians that began it.

New CfD for La-N
[edit]Flex restarted the CfD for La-N, despite it being resolved less than one month ago, and has gone around to people's talk pages informing them. Just fyi.--Prosfilaes 23:20, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
- Voted Keep. The CfD "Project" is a bit broken in itself. I know of at least 1 category that was CfD voted delete by a pack of non-contributors. Now the real content contributors are forced to manually create lists..... Go figure.

I noticed that you reverted Edmund Hillary.
In particular you reverted/remove: Prominent People - Edmund Hillary
I am guessing, but is it because this URL contains google adds? And the contributor is anonymous. And information source reference are not include (maybe it is original research)?
Otherwise the web page refered to looks reasonable.

- Hi. In response to your note on my talk page, the user who added the external link to Edmund Hillary also added spam links from the same web site to a dozen other unrelated articles. (see Anne Frank and Martin Luther King, Jr. history for examples of the same web site.) - Tεxτurε 15:16, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Sources for Whangamomona
[edit]Hi, thanks for the list of sources! Per WP:RS, I think the majority of them can't be used, as they're essentially unreliable (conversation forums, for example, can and do say anything), but I think the Puke Ariki article is pretty good. I suggest you re-add the trivia to Whangamomona (see WP:V#Burden of evidence), perhaps elaborate a bit on the context of the election. Regards, Ziggurat 21:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again. You have the source, I encourage you to add it. If you're not sure how, please ask! Otherwise, it seems pointless to ask someone else to do what you're perfectly capable of doing yourself.Ziggurat 00:26, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi again. Let me explain how this has gone down from my perspective. I removed a fact that (on the face of it) appeared to be vandalism, and was unsourced. I certainly should have checked its veracity first, and for that I apologize. It must have felt abrupt to have your edit removed like that!
- It wasn't even my edit, but it is interesting to see what your keyboards & mouse does delete.
I do so frequently, because Wikipedia gets a lot of vandalism, but checking would have been better.
- I suggest you take you keyboard to one side, and have a quiet chat to it.
When you pointed to some sources, I encouraged you to add them to the article, but you insisted that I revert my edit. Very well, I did, and added a note that citations should be added. Just to be clear: everything that you wrote in that article is there now - I have not removed anything. I chose not to add the citation myself, as I've explained, because I don't think the fact is a very useful one, but I wasn't about to stop you adding one of your citations if you wanted. I still think that the fact should be sourced, so that other people don't make the same mistake I did, which is why I added the {{fact}} tag.
The end result is this: you're offended that I removed your addition. I'm sorry about that, and I have restored it. You're now trying to bully me into adding the source for you, and I can assure you that this is a counterproductive way to go about building Wikipedia. Be bold and make the change yourself! I won't oppose it, as I said from the start. If you want to bandy policy, WP:V#Burden of evidence makes it very clear that the onus is on you, as the author and person who wishes the edit to remain, to add the citation.
- I never "bandy policy", Zues forbid, I would guess Policy is created by people with alot of keyboard time, and not much else to contribute.
Your unwillingness to do this, and your willingness to accuse me of "refus[ing] to revert the edit" when it's clear that I have already done so, seems to be disruptive.
In the hope of remedying this, can I suggest an alternative course of action?
- How about accusing me of stalking you, and asking for an admin to intervene?
Pick an admin, any admin, and ask for their opinion. I'll gladly go along with whatever they recommend. In the meantime, can I suggest that you not start 'stalking' the recent votes I've made at AfD, as this is certainly a violation of WP:POINT.
- OOPS you have already accused me of stalking!!!
Regards, Ziggurat 05:23, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I promise never again to vote on any AfDs you may have "Contributed" to, even the ones about "personalities" less famous then "Presidential Goats".
- I confess, your level of research when "contributing" simply boggles my mind. ThanX for the insite.
