The information board outside the church says the church name changed from St Edmund to St Edmund and the Holy Sepulchre because, between 1103 and 1173, it belonged to the Augustinian Canons, who were Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.
I have tried to do some digging on the net to find out about the Augustinian Canons but nothing I've found shows any direct link with the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. As far as I can tell the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre were based in Jerusalem and they did live in line with the Augustinian Rules. But I have found nothing that suggests a group of them lived in London in the 12th century. The Augustinian Canons mentioned in the Wikipedia and elsewhere seem to be a different group entirely.
