This article shouldn't be redirected to Reformed Egyptian. Reformed Egyptian was just the type of writing that was on the Gold Plates. It is also seperate from Linguistics and the Book of Mormon, which deals only with the linguistic authenticity of names, etc. in the Book of Mormon. This article deals with the languages that the Nephites specutively SPOKE, and how they could possibly be related to Hebrew or modern Native American languages. It also deals with the Jaredite's language, which is ENTIRELY unrelated to Reformed Egyptian. - DarkFantasy

DarkFantasy, there is no need to repeat the obvious that the Reformed Egyptian article is about the written and this article is supposed to be about the spoken language. The issue is not written vs spoken; the issue is as I stated a day and a half ago that "There is little to no knowledge of the spoken language except speculation." It is irrelevant that there were not English equivalents (at least until an English equivalent was given during the translation) to the language of the BoM people (like deseret) because that is not very informative about the spoken language. The Reformed Egyptian and the spoken language (or any other language of the BoM people) may have little to do with each other. We have no good proof whether the language(s) spoken by the BoM people were Reformed Egyptian, Hebrew, Egyptian, Chinese, Martian or some variation of those; theories that suggest otherwise are mostly speculation. A related counterpoint is that Wikipedia is not primary research which is what this sort of article is about. At this point, we just don't know much about the spoken language of the BoM people. I think it's an interesting topic and I think your suggestion of the article is thoughtful, but there is just nothing really informative to say about it at this point. Both the Linguistics and the Reformed Egyptian articles are broad enough to include matterial about words like [[deseret]], the English equivalent of the Jaredite word which we only know about because the word was written in Reformed Egyptian. Could we change this to Languages in the Book of Mormon or Languages of the Book of Mormon or something similar? The title as it now stands reads as if there is a book called "Mormon Languages". RickK 00:06, 21 May 2004 (UTC)

The current title also violates other Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization): "Language" should be lower case "l", for example. —B|Talk 14:42, May 21, 2004 (UTC)
