Wrong map

[edit]

On the top left hand side map showing Strathfield LGA's location its wrong. Someone get the proper map, because it currently shows Burwood LGA. Strathfield is to the west of that. I can't change because I'm blocked (some vandalizing guy from the same proxy). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.244.24.211 (talk) 07:33, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Research

[edit]

OK, I'm starting on Strathfield Municipality as my first "get this to featured article status" Sydney location. I went to the local library in Homebush, and I found the following material that I'll be looking into:

Municipality or Suburb?

[edit]

Two things - one, is this on the municipality or the suburb? It might be better to move this so that becomes clear. Secondly, the Strathfield massacre probably needs an article. Ambi 06:12, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Most definitely! I can definitely get info on that... I quite forgot all about that! I can even get a GFDL picture of the memorial in Strathfield Square. - Ta bu shi da yu 06:18, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)
P.S. Strathfield is a municipality and a suburb as far as I'm aware. - Ta bu shi da yu 06:19, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I gathered that, but I think it might be wise to split them up into seperate articles. I think we've now done that for everywhere in Melbourne. Ambi 07:29, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)
OK, will definitely do that. I'm currently in "research mode", and will start adding to the article once I get more info. - Ta bu shi da yu 07:53, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Geography

[edit]

I'm trying to do a similar thing wiht the municipality of hurstville, and am considering putting in as subsections of geography, bits about the local flora, fuana, and geology with links to wider sydney articles. I just thought that maybe you would want to do a similar thing with strathfeild. The bellman 12:31, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Separating state electoral info into own article?

[edit]

Do you think it would be good to separate the "State electoral boundaries" section out into a new article? That way all the suburbs it covers can point to that article, and some stuff about who has held the seat before and now can be added. If so, what do you think it should be called? e.g. "State Electoral District Of Strathfield" / "Electoral District Of Strathfield" / "Strathfield State electoral district" / "Strathfield electoral district" ? -- Nickj 00:10, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Is that its official name? Ambi 04:27, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
The official nomenclature seems to be State Electoral District Of Strathfield. Go with that, do you reckon? -- Nickj 05:12, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
It'd be nice to put the actual state in the title, though. Ambi 05:54, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Ambi, good point, you smart cookie ;-) How about "State Electoral District Of Strathfield, New South Wales" ? Seems better than "New South Wales State Electoral District Of Strathfield" (and also more consistent with how suburbs are named), but they're both rather unwieldily long names, but I guess that can't be avoided. -- Nickj 06:11, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Sounds good to me! - Ta bu shi da yu 06:12, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Good stuff - done now. -- Nickj 08:26, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Wanted photos

[edit]
  • I'd like to get one of Strathfield council chambers,
  • another of Strathfield station
  • one of the "plaque marking the location of 'Strathfield Saye" can be found in the footpath of Strathfield Avenue, marking the approximate location of the original house."
    • Photograph of Council Chambers and Plaque done! Also have one of the Strathfield Square (with station in background) and one of the main entrance of Strathfield Plaza. The latter two aren't so good though in my opinion. Now all I have to do is upload them... - Yin-Ling 15:27, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you, Yin-Ling! -- All the best, Nickj (t) 01:38, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are a legend! Any chance of the plaque that is just outside Gloria Jeans cafe near Strathfield Station? - Ta bu shi da yu 03:52, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The plaque of Strathfield Saye is constant source of annoyance. It was paid for by the Strathfield District Historical Society but Council ignored the wording given by the Society and put their own wording on the plaque. It is incorrect. John Hardy was a jeweller and was not the first Mayor of Strathfield. Many approaches have been made to the Council to have it fixed without any results - Cathy Jones.

There are two plaques near Gloria Jeans. One is in memory of the Strathfield Massacre. The other, near the tree in the plaza, commenorates the Rose family. I think it has been placed in the wrong spot after researching the original land grants. Thomas Rose's land grant was west of the Town Centre - Cathy Jones.

I'm putting up a photo of Strathfield Town Square. It is after all the centre of Strathfield, not the council chambers. - Mshara1 04.52, 15 May 2005 (AEST)

Sounds good - more photos are always welcome. -- All the best, Nickj (t) 01:00, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm...

[edit]

... it appears that admin abuse (bad word, not what I meant) is not just an en thing. I had a Korean friend translate a short amount of text for ko:Municipality of Strathfield, however it was deleted (with no explanation) by ko:사용자:최담담. Doesn't bode well for the project... - Ta bu shi da yu 00:44, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it was too short, or badly written. Assume good faith. Ambi 00:46, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm... even badly written articles on en don't get deleted (unless they have no context), they just get edited. Anyway, it's all sorted out now. Incidently, the Korean word for "Strathfield" is 스트래스필드 - Ta bu shi da yu 11:57, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you got the ko thing sorted out! In case anyone was wondering, the Korean name is simply the word Strathfield transliterated phonemically into hangul. It's not a bad approximation of the English sounds except that the 'th' sound doesn't have an equivalent in Korean so it becomes an 's' sound. Best wishes --Alexxx1 14:55, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wow!

[edit]

Great work, whoever updated this article! - Ta bu shi da yu 13:57, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Origins of korean immigrants in Strathfield

[edit]

Actually, the growth of the korean community was largely influenced by the growth of the Strathfield Korean Uniting Church at on Homebush Road.

It was because of these people who went to the Korean Church on Sunday, that motivated the establishment of small korean supermarkets, and consequently other korean stores.

Are you sure about that? It sounds interesting and most likely correct... when did the Uniting Church start? - Ta bu shi da yu 15:56, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Uniting Church in Australia was established in 1976. Now, Strathfield is an example of a thriving migrant community

Great research...

[edit]

Its all great research that I'm reading above, but shouldnt that research begin to filter into the actual article? It's kind of looking a bit shabby and neglected right now (the suburb of Strathfield and not the muncipality, the municipality is fine). It only takes a few moments to update, format and add pics since all the research is already done. I would do it, but I'd rather not butt into this since its you guys that did the work. Great job with that though! Down2mars 03:51, 04 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Need to fix map

[edit]

The LGA map is incorrect. It shows Burwood. Strathfield is west of the area shown. --Lawe (talk) 15:29, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

separate section for education

[edit]

Hi, I was just reading the #Culture section and the part on education stood out to me. Imo would be better on its own, just wondering what others were thinking. Tjpob (talk) 13:28, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two History sections and politics way down the article

[edit]

Hi, Just noticed there were two history sections, which I'll merge if no one objects (lol) and I reckon the sections on politics and council should be higher up the article page. They're pretty foundational imo but is less important than the history section merger - I'll put suburbs as section 1, then history, and imo Politics should go next but won't do the latter until others have agreed. Also City of Canterbury (New South Wales) and Municipality of Ashfield amongst others (only two I've checked) have council section number 3.Tjpob (talk) 13:39, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'The Upbeats'? or The Upbeat?

[edit]

Hi, in the culture section, apparently a band called the upbeat called strathfield home for a while. Is it The Upbeats, who are from NZ? If so, [citation needed] Tjpob (talk) 14:32, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All the references to bands calling Strathfield home in the culture section should have citations. I'll find the editors (who added this info) + ask. Tjpob (talk) 14:35, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
