Contextualization is a long word and seldom used, as it is not readily understood. Perhaps its relevance as a term is for missiology studies. Most readers will appreciate the similar terms used to explain context , worldviews and contextalise which is similar with accommodating or explaining in the correct hearers' context of understanding.
Perhaps others here in among wikipedian contributors have some relevant comments to add to.
Two unrelated topics?
[edit]The sociolinguistic sense of contextualization seems totally unrelated to its use in religious contexts. If it were not for the fact that both sections are so short, I would say they should be separate pages (perhaps with a disambiguation page).Cnilep (talk) 17:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think so because the first religious pushes of the use of contextualization were kickstarted by religious teachers who had been trained in the sociolinguistic fields of the need for contextualization in everything. --JNZ (talk) 18:44, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
I have turned this page into a DAB. I will work on fleshing out Contextualization (sociolinguistics), which is currently a stub, at some time in the future. As I know nothing about the other sense, I will leave Contextualization (Bible translation) to other editors. Note that Contextualization (missiology) redirects to the Bible translation page.
