EP Election 1994

What is the difference

[edit]

Between the Third Way and the National Liberal Party? Both are covered here but it doesn't explain. There are two separate websites, with different logos and colours. How are the two connected? And if they are the same thing, why have two names and websites at the same time? - Yorkshirian (talk) 12:18, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unsure as to the connection also, as such I've contacted the Third Way and the Electoral Commission for confirmation. - Noxolia (talk) 14:45, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've had no reply from either the Third Way or the Electoral Commission, which I find quite disappointing. It is one thing for an organisation to ignore my request, but for a government body to completely ignore a query from a member of the public, that's another thing entirely. Noxolia (talk) 04:05, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It does seem likely to me that the 'National Liberal Party – The Third Way' has now split into 'National Liberal Party' and a think tank 'Third Way' however I have not seen a referenced source. The think tank and political party may share the same key personnel but use different names for the two roles.
It would seem unlikely that either would have sufficient notability to be worthy of a Wikipedia page. Nedrutland (talk) 08:34, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is the 3rd way the same as National Liberal Party

[edit]

I think so. It took a while to convince myself of this, during which I found:

  • The Electoral Commission Register (use the registration search) shows this party registered which is called "National Liberal Party - True Liberalism" and has the alternative name "National Liberal Party Ulster Third Way". The "Ulster Third Way" was registered as a distinct party between 2001 and 2005.
  • The logo on the EC register matches leaflet, so they're standing in this year's election.
  • The EC says it registered in 1999, which doesn't match the introduction to this page. But that's ok because 1999 is the earliest date anyone registered with the EC.
  • The people in the leaflet and on the EC register don't match anyone listed in this page. But these things change.

Third Way (United Kingdom)Third Way (UK think tank) Third Way (UK organisation) – Ambiguous with Third Way (magazine)142.160.89.97 (talk) 19:39, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal amended per SMcCandlish's suggestion. 142.160.89.97 (talk) 23:48, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Moved from technical request (permalink). Not sure how it is ambiguous. –Ammarpad (talk) 00:52, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@SMcCandlish: Given that the organisation wasn't always a think tank, your proposal seems most sensible to me. 142.160.89.97 (talk) 05:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Ammarpad: Not sure how it is ambiguous. It is ambiguous because "Third Way (United Kingdom)" could refer equally to the think tank or to the magazine. Could you clarify your uncertainty? 142.160.89.97 (talk) 05:22, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That may be true and may not. The average reader (vast majority of internet users) will only type "Third way" in search box, whether they mean the magazine or organization. That will take them to Third Way, then to Third Way (disambiguation) where they will see all of them. But more importantly, I believe discussion will be useful here (and I think you can agree with me now). –Ammarpad (talk) 05:33, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ammarpad: That may be true and may not. Are you suggesting that it may or many not be true that "Third Way (United Kingdom)" could refer equally to the think tank or to the magazine? 142.160.89.97 (talk) 05:46, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think Ammarpad's simply unclear on what disambiguation is and how it works. If there are two UK things named "Third Way" then "Third Way (United Kingdom)" is not a disambiguation, by definition; "United Kingdom" is still ambiguous in this context. "Organisation" would be also by itself, because of multiple orgs with the name. But only one of those is British, so "UK organisation" is a non-ambiguous descriptive tag for this particular topic.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  08:40, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Use Third Way (UK organisation) In ictu oculi (talk) 08:26, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • "UK" is ambiguous with Third Way (centrism)#United Kingdom and the magazine; this should be Third Way (UK organisation). Peter James (talk) 16:49, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
