Talk:The Whirling Dervishes
Major Edit
[edit]I have cut the whole lot about how-to-whirl, both as it was badly written and as it was redundant (Sufi whirling. I have added a long section cut and pasted form the Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi article where it frankly did not belong (But here it did , so here it is) I have further removed promotional links and rearranged everything. Please tell me what you think. Refdoc 20:55, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Well done, I say. The guy who wrote Syed Hussain (now on VfD) has put his Sufi Whirling HOWTOs in several articles, has no inkling what NPOV means, and added a link to alternativescience.com to Pseudoscience. Also, why would he consider The Whirling Dervishes to be an article on alternative medicine? --Ardonik 03:34, Jul 18, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for the encouragement. Trouble is I have not much knowledge about these dervishes and have really only condensed and deleted in order to create some thing readable. I think someone shoudl go with a fine comb over the article and see whether it is historically correct Refdoc 22:13, 18 Jul 2004 (UTC)
This page seems very redundant with the page on sufi whirling. Does it make sense to have two pages that have almost identical content? — © Alex756 01:48, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)
In any case it needs to be rewritten. A lot of it reads like some kind of grammatically incorrect but friendly how-to book. --Furrykef 15:05, 24 May 2004 (UTC)
Here is some material from the page on Rumi, maybe a starting point Refdoc 19:02, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)
For reasons unknown the HOWTO on whiling made its re-entry. I have deleted it again. Refdoc 22:53, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Whirling v. Howling
[edit]Aren't the howling dervishes different from the whirling dervishes? I always thought the so-called "Howling Dervishes" were the Rufi'a order not the Mevlevi order, which, as far as I know does not do any kind of howling as part of their sema or any other of their activities. — © Alex756 03:04, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)
