Pearland
[edit]I removed Pearland from the list of dead links since there is now no composite Census information as a designated place. The former community has been annexed entirely by the City of Palmdale and is now a district area of that city. (Center was located at 47th Street East & Avenue S)

So uh... why exactly is it named the Antelope Valley? To my knowledge there are and never have been antelopes here. 68.70.243.112 02:24, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- There actually were when settlers arrived, but they were hunted out. I forget what species they were, though. Akradecki 04:06, 2 September 2006 (UTC) (from sunny Lancaster)
- Probably Pronghorn "antelope". Pfly 05:59, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
External links
[edit]I'm new to Wikipedia participation, so please forgive me if I ask a "stupid" question. I tried to add an external link to the Antelope Valley page for Bonnie Stone's site that talks about her guidebook to the Antelope Valley, titled San Andreas Ain't No Fault of Mine. The site includes photos and links to Antelope Valley points of interest, as well as information about museums and other places where the guidebook can be found (purchased). The link was removed and a notation about "removing spam" seemed to be the reason. Now, I assume that the reason was that the linked site had information about buying the book, but I see there is also an external link to a site with a collection of beautiful photographs of the Antelope Valley that has not been removed, yet when I went to that site, I found information on purchasing the photos. What's the deal here? Thanks, Gina Cresse.
- After looking at the website, I decided that the primary purpose for the website that you linked to was to sell the book. There is one page of some nice photos with links, but very little additional information about the Antelope Valley that would help the people from the Wikipedia who visited the website learn more about the Antelope Valley. Therefore it is not an appropriate external link for the Wikipedia.
- No, I didn't go through all of the external links on this page. If the link you refer to is only pictures without substantive information about the Antelope Valley, it should also be deleted. BlankVerse 10:13, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Antelope Valley map offer
[edit]This page, much like all geographic based pages, should have a map defining the area known as "Antelope Valley"
If wikipedia would like to hire me as its GIS analyst I could be persuaded. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.165.36.210 (talk • contribs).
- All of the writing on the Wikipedia is done by volunteer editors. Maps on the website are either from public domain (often US govt.) or copyleft sources, or they are created by volunteers.
- If you want to create some maps for the Wikipedia (with the appropriate copyleft licenses) that you might also want to use as examples to show to paying customers or a potential employer, the Wikipedia will appreciate your efforts. BlankVerse 06:27, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think this page really needs some good maps (political and physical). The article is a little confusing when it talks about how the valley is like a sideways V. I know what it looks like (having flown over it) but other people might not. 98.148.239.170 (talk) 16:49, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
