The Catholic Encyclopedia says we know nothing about his origins ("Of the date of the saint's birth and of his early life nothing is known"[1], and at least one site [2] claims he was Punic, on no better grounds than the several Berber activist sites which claim he was Berber. So this edit appears unjustified. - Mustafaa 20:32, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

now I didn't. but an other French-speking in wikipedia [3] said it. okke he is a punic .Aziri 12:55, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Picture it: North Africa, early 3rd century. A rich, pagan family set up in an extensive villa near Carthage. Cultural possibilities: Roman? (soldiers, retirees, traders in the city, not likely) Punic? (landed aristocracy, documented in the extensive archaeology of Roman North Africa, very likely) Berber? (indigenous people either marginalized or assimilated in dominant Punic culture over the centuries? Likely, especially on the female side) Wetman 06:35, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)

"After much hesitation he yielded to the stormy demand of the people, but a part of the presbyters soon formed an opposition party, hampered him in all his efforts, and even spread evil reports about him. At first Cyprian treated them with wise consideration, and asked their advice; but he soon had to use sharper measures. He was strict with priests and consecrated virgins who had broken the moral law." Does anyone want to identify anything that's being referred to here and re-enter it?Wetman 06:35, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)

____ Will do some reaserch on Cyprian. Seems to me allot of information on him, or theories, have been left out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Loganp3 (talkcontribs) 17:32, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Joined Roman Catholic Church

[edit]

Not all people agree on this. Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox would beg to differ. Could it just say Catholic Church because all four of these sects see themselves as Catholics? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.234.175.229 (talk) 03:47, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I had changed it to RCC, but I would be fine with making it just 'Catholic Church'. I'll make the change now. Carl.bunderson (talk) 04:16, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I just previewed it, and the wikilink for Catholic Church redirects to Roman Catholic Church, so I'm not so sure about it. And also, in the infobox, where you changed RCC to CC, that definitely should stay as RCC, as our liturgical calendar is different from Eastern Catholics' and the Orthodox. Rebaptism

[edit]

The section on rebaptism seems long on opinion and short on references. I pupose to delete unreferenced assertions. Rwflammang (talk) 09:06, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Latin or Greek?

[edit]

Did he write in Latin or Greek? It would be good to mention.24.125.102.206 (talk) 03:20, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He wrote in Latin. Rwflammang (talk) 01:39, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RCC feast day

[edit]

boxed entry says September 16th; 'References' says September 13th. some sorting out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.78.166.161 (talk) 19:00, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Any particular reason the infobox was removed? Rwflammang (talk) 12:18, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Contested election as bishop of Carthage

[edit]

First sentence of this section: "...demonstrating good equestrian style." lol, what? "Equestrian"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.255.196.179 (talk) 04:25, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Added a link to Equestrian order to clarify which of the many meanings of the word equestrian is being used here. Rwflammang (talk) 14:13, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thascius vs Thaschus

[edit]

I believe there's typo in the first name of Cyprian. I think that Thaschus should be replaced by Thascius. 7otto (talk) 19:42, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
